SANCTUM
the SANCTUM series, my recent collection of paintings, IS born from a practice of art therapy and dialogue with material.
A Sanctum is a private, holy place in which the rest of the world cannot enter. The sanctuary being a presence of spiritual contemplation beyond the physical plane, yet adorned with a material reflection of the inner palace.
This painting series is site of transformation, with the canvas as the sanctuary for such. The artist exists as the conduit for the alchemical process, and the painting is reimagined as an absorbent for a raw emotion. A chrysalis where the pain can crystallize, and both the artist and the work transform together, like a dance.
